Phoenix will require all of its 14,000 employees to be vaccinated by January, stating that the city is required to issue the mandate under a presidential executive order that applies to federal contractors.
The city announced the requirement in a letter to employees Thursday, saying that employees will need to be fully vaccinated by Jan. 18.
“Due to the number of federal contracts held by the city of Phoenix, we are considered a federal contractor,” the letter said. “As such, all city employees are subject to the provisions outlined in the executive order.”
City Manager Jeff Barton made the final decision after reviewing the requirements under the executive order President Joe Biden issued Sept. 9 that requires all federal employees and contractors to comply with vaccine requirements for workers.
